2014 Movie Ratings

2014 Total: 62

Foxcatcher – 12/28/2014 – Theater – Weeeeeeirrd. Creepy, weird. I guess it was good? Not sure how to feel about this one. Good acting, at least.
3 popcorn rating

The Imitation Game – 12/27/2014 – Theater – Benedict Cumberbatch. Nuf said. (Also, sad story!)
3.5 popcorn rating

Into the Woods – 12/25/2014 – Theater – I always enjoy a good musical! And this one delivered! A bit weird and not sure I understood what they were going for, but enjoyable nonetheless.
3 popcorn rating

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb – 12/20/2014 – Theater – Good, clean fun. Great movie? No. Do you know what you’re getting? Yes!
2.5 popcorn rating

Birdman – 12/14/2014 – Theater – Good movie, great acting. This movie isn’t for everyone, but good nonetheless!
3.5 popcorn rating

The Theory of Everything – 12/13/2014 – Theater – I’d been wanting to see this movie ever since seeing the trailer months ago. Excellent trailer. Ross pointed out it’s probably one of the best trailers ever. Boom. (He didn’t say “boom” – I did.) I really enjoyed the movie and definitely recommend it! I also think both Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones deserve all of the accolades they’re getting. But darn it — the trailer is just so good! It’s like you don’t even need to see the movie. (But you do.) 5 stars for the trailer!
3.5 popcorn rating

Hector and the Search for Happiness – 12/5/2014 – Theater – AMC was letting people see this movie for free — and it was quite a nice little movie. Happiness, it’s a good thing! Simon Pegg, also a good thing!
3 popcorn rating

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 – 11/30/2014 – Theater – Was I the only one who didn’t like this movie? Was I the only one who found Katniss annoying?
2 popcorn rating

Big Hero 6 – 11/22/2014 – Theater – I wasn’t interested in this movie at all, but I really enjoyed it! Baymax – yay!
3.5 popcorn rating

Interstellar – 11/7/2014 – Theater – Very good sci-fi flick!  Matthew McConaughey can do no wrong. And Jessica Chastain is one of my faves!
3.5 popcorn rating

Nightcrawler – 11/1/2014 – Theater – After watching this movie, Ross said something along the lines of “What’s up with movies leaving you feeling dirty?” This one and Gone Girl… creepy, dirty.
2.5 popcorn rating

John Wick – 10/26/2014 – Theater – It is what it is. Enjoyable and the ultimate dog-lovers revenge movie.
3 popcorn rating

St. Vincent – 10/24/2014 – Theater – I liked this little film! Good job, everyone!
3.5 popcorn rating

Fury – 10/18/2014 – Theater – Yep, it’s a good war movie.
3.5 popcorn rating

Gone Girl – 10/3/2014 – Theater – Ewwww… creepy. One critic called this the date night movie of the century. Huh? So, I liked Rosamund Pike going into this movie. Now I really like her. She is great, and Affleck is pretty good too.
3 popcorn rating

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day – 10/2/2014 – Theater – Cute little family film. (Hey, it was free!)
2.5 popcorn rating

The Equalizer – 9/27/2014 – Theater – Yep, some stuff gets equalized! As expected. Oh, that Denzel. He’s so silly.
3 popcorn rating

This is Where I Leave You – 9/20/2014 – Theater – Not bad, not bad. And Jane Fonda looks great!
3 popcorn rating

The Maze Runner – 9/19/2014 – Theater – Another one of those teen movies from another one of those young adult books. Nothing new, but I didn’t hate it. About on par with the book. I will say that I couldn’t get through the third book, though, so we’ll see if it ever makes it to being a movie.
2.5 popcorn rating

Tammy – 9/6/2014 – Theater – Okay, I understand all the bad reviews and everything, but I still think this was a semi-cute little movie and it made me giggle. For a dollar theater movie, you can’t ask for much more!
2.5 popcorn rating

Sabotage – 8/31/2014 – Instant Download – This is the type of movie you rent when you just want to veg out and not think. So that’s what we did.
2 popcorn rating

Magic in the Moonlight – 8/29/2014 – Theater – Colin Firth and Emma Stone – I like them both separately, but together, not so much. Just not believable. Also, I didn’t know this was a Woody Allen movie going into it. Would I have gone to see it if I knew? Not sure…
2 popcorn rating

The Giver – 8/24/2014 – Theater – This was just an okay movie. I personally didn’t really get the big deal about the book either.
2 popcorn rating

Frozen – 8/23/2014 – DVD – Good job, Disney! Kickin’ it old school.
3 popcorn rating

The Expendables 3 – 8/16/2014 – Theater – Highlight of this movie, Antonio Banderas, hands down!
2.5 popcorn rating

Hercules (2014) – 8/3/2014 – Theater – Entertaining enough. Did its job.
2.5 popcorn rating

Guardians of the Galaxy – 8/1/2014 – Theater – Yay! Finally a fun and enjoyable — and GOOD — movie! Highly recommend! Chris Pratt is having a great year.
4 popcorn rating

Lucy – 7/27/2014 – Theater – Wow, this was not good at all. Not good. At all.
1.5 popcorn rating

How to Train Your Dragon – 7/19/2014 – DVD – Hmmm, not what I expected… in a bad way. Don’t understand all the praise.
2 popcorn rating

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – 7/11/2014 – Theater – While I enjoyed the first movie in this series, I wasn’t all that interested in seeing this one. But I’m glad I did because I really enjoyed it. Those CG guys are amazing!
3.5 popcorn rating

Snowpiercer – 7/5/2014 – Theater – Sole reason I wanted to see this movie? Chris Evans. Will he make it to my favorite actor list one day? Perhaps. He certainly didn’t disappoint in this gritty, sci-fi click. And Tilda Swinton is a hoot!
3 popcorn rating

Edge of Tomorrow – 6/6/2014 – Theater – I was really looking forward to this movie (Emily Blunt is one of my faves), and it didn’t disappoint!
3.5 popcorn rating

A Million Ways to Die in the West – 5/28/2014 – Theater – Yikes. Just yikes.
1 popcorn rating

X-Men: Days of Future Past – 5/25/2014 – Theater – Very enjoyable!
3.5 popcorn rating

Godzilla – 5/18/2014 – Theater – This was my first Godzilla movie. And I liked it!
3 popcorn rating

Neighbors – 5/10/2014 – Theater – Some laughs, but nothing new.
2.5 popcorn rating

Reasonable Doubt – 4/26/2014 – Instant Download – This was like watching Arbitrage again (see previous movie below). Oh, those privileged people and their problems.
1.5 popcorn rating

Arbitrage – 4/18/2014 – Instant Download – This is the type of movie that you watch when there’s nothing else that looks good.
1.5 popcorn rating

Out of the Furnace – 4/12/2014 – Instant Download – I thought this movie would be better. Ross said that if it were a Jason Statham movie, it would’ve been shorter (and probably better). It’s like the movie is in slo-mo.
2 popcorn rating

Preview Screening – 4/10/2014 – Theater

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – 4/6/2014 – All these hero movies are starting to blend together and you know exactly what you’re going to get with them. With that said, this one is more of the same, but still enjoyable.
3 popcorn rating

Preview Screening – 4/2/2014 – Theater

Seducing Doctor Lewis – 3/29/2014 – DVD – This is a small Canadian subtitled movie that I’d never heard, but I was told to watch it by my mom. And everyone knows that you do as your mother tells you… This movie is probably best described as cute. And very Waking Ned Devine-ish.
2.5 popcorn rating

Divergent – 3/28/2014 – I read this book and thought it was pretty average. I wasn’t expecting much going into the movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. Shailene Woodley did a good job carrying the movie. The most exciting part, though, was the earthquake midway through.
3 popcorn rating

Veronica Mars – 3/23/2014 – Theater – Yay, closure! If you watched the show, you know what I mean. Satisfying closure? Eh. I liked the movie, wouldn’t mind a sequel, heard there’s a web spin-off.
2.5 popcorn rating

Muppets Most Wanted – 3/21/2014 – Oh, Muppets, you always provide an enjoyable movie-watching experience. It’s always time well spent! Lots of fun cameos, too!
3 popcorn rating

The Grand Budapest Hotel – 3/15/2014 – Good start, dragged a bit, okay ending. This is another movie with a lot of cameos. I think I enjoyed them more in Muppets, though.
2.5 popcorn rating

300: Rise of an Empire – 3/9/2014 – Theater – We went and saw this movie just because we felt like going to see something – not because we wanted to necessarily see this (at least for me). With that said, it was not very good. Two popcorns might even be too much!
2 popcorn rating

Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters – 3/1/2014 – Instant Download – I assume the book was better, but still an enjoyable watch. Nathan Fillion should be in more movies.
2.5 popcorn rating

Odd Thomas – 2/28/2014 – Instant Download – This was one of those movies that was released for download at the same time of its theater release. After watching it, I understand why.
2 popcorn rating

Non-Stop – 2/25/2014 – Theater – Better than I expected!
3 popcorn rating

Paranoia – 2/22/2014 – DVD – Just okay.
2 popcorn rating

RoboCop (2014) – 2/15/2014 – Theater – Ross says the original is better (which I don’t remember), but this was at least a decent watch.
2.5 popcorn rating

Winter’s Tale – 2/8/2014 – Theater – WHAT?!?  Ugh, so not good! This movie was sooo not what I expected.
1 popcorn rating

The Lego Movie – 2/7/2014 – Theater – A very enjoyable movie for both young and young at heart. Dare I say it was awesome?
3 popcorn rating

47 Ronin – 1/25/2014 – Theater – We decided to skip this one after seeing a horrible rotten tomatoes score, but then went to see it in the dollar theater anyway. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
2.5 popcorn rating

Redemption – 1/23/2014 – Instant Download – This is a quiet little Statham movie.
2.5 popcorn rating

Preview Screening – 1/21/2014 – Theater

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit – 1/17/2014 – Theater – Decent movie, but nothing new or exciting.
2.5 popcorn rating

Preview Screening – 1/14/2014 – Theater

Stand Up Guys – 1/11/2014 – Instant Download – Old guys being old.
2.5 popcorn rating

Robot & Frank – 1/9/2014 – Instant Download – This little movie was a very nice surprise.
3.5 popcorn rating
